(This content is published as an outcome of Information Resources Center (IRC) Project.)
This project was featured in a topical article on the IRC website, as quoted below.
This IRC project started in 2021 and has built a digital collection of materials from Bantu languages that can be utilized by researchers. The outcome was a launch of “Bantu Language Digital Archive (BantuDArc)” in March 2022.
The archival materials include the interview files, transcriptions of the interviews, and English translations of them, where available. As of March 2022, languages such as Bende (spoken in Tanzania), Rundi (spoken in Burundi), Rwa (spoken in Tanzania), Swahili (widely spoken as a lingua franca in East Africa), Xitsonga (spoken in South Africa, Zimbabwe and Mozambique) are available.
Plots and basic metadata are accessible for free, but sound files are limited to academic use upon request.
