“An overview of Lole Language spoken in the Rote Island, Eastern Indonesia” (Including discussion)
Lole (Ethnologue ISO 639-3:llg) is one of the languages spoken by about 20,000 people on Rote Island in Eastern Indonesia. It genetically belongs to the Nuclear Timor subgroup of the Austronesian language family. (In Rote Island, there are 18 nusak (political units or ‘domains’ claiming that each has its dede’ak (language, dialect, speech variety), which makes Rote a linguistically complex but interesting area.) In this talk, we will present an overview of phonological and morphosyntactic features of Lole. We will highlight features that warrant in-depth investigation, such as the preglottalized voiced consonants [ʔb] and [ʔd], and the occurrence of /n/ in word-final position. In addition, we also will present morphosyntactic features, like pronominal affixes and clitics, and passive-like construction.
