About the Project

Project term: April, 2020–March, 2023

To identify all language families and isolated languages in Asia and Africa, in collaboration with related disciplines such as genetics and archaeology, this project aims to clarify the formation of linguistic features associated with the following: 1) nominative and accusative case marking; 2) consonantal systems; 3) a lexicon of small animals, siblings, cultivated plants; and 4) numerical systems from linguistic maps that have a 2000-location density. Research meetings are to be held twice a year in English, with the results being available to the public as electronic publications. This project seeks to treat the language families and isolated languages as one linguistic area and encourages close collaboration between Asian and African language researchers and adjacent disciplines.
